Choreographed and to be performed by “CHATURANGANA” – an attempt by young architects and performers who attempt to translate India’s architectural heritage into a performing arts format and develop a creative, story-telling approach to our rich culture.
Performance Inspired & Derived from Architecture for and by Women – LASYA
Chaturanga’s performance at the IIA centenary celebrations Jaipur aims to celebrate women and architecture in India. The presentation will be a story line with interspersed performances inspired and derived from architecture for and by women.
The dancers Shubhi Johari is trained under the tutelage of eminent Pandit Jaikishan Maharaj ji, she has made heads turn with her swift rise in the art of performing. She has also given sundry solo and duet dance recitals across the globe, which have received critical acclaim from maestros. While Shinjita Roy is a Delhi based Kathak Dancer and currently a consultant at the Gujral Foundation. Her true calling lies in the overlapping realms of architecture and dance.
They will be accompanied by the musicians, Amir Khan (Sarangi) from Muradabad Gharana, an approved A grade artist in All India Radio and Doordarshan. Percussionist and trained table player, Sarthak Pahwa (Tabla) with an expanded vision ranging from Indian classical to folk to world styles from across continents. The melody he brings out of his beats compels people to tap their feet to the beats of the world and Vidhya Gopal (vocals), a Mumbai-based Indian classical singer and architect at Ethos India. Her powerful, rustic and rich voice can easily adapt to suit semi-classical and folk genres.
